Tips and Tricks to Combat Mosquitoes and No See Ums
Ahhh, spring time! We are ready for warmer weather, longer days, and more time outside… but dreading the return of mosquitos and gnats, or “no-see ums” as we in the Lowcountry call them. Don't let these pesky bugs keep you indoors! Here are some tips and tricks to keep the bugs away.
Our Favorite Bug Sprays:
Mission Essentials Essential Oils Spray
Outdoor Repellents:
Biogents Trap (B.V. swears by it - especially once you incorporate the CO2 cylinder)
Bug Zapper (there’s something so incredibly satisfying about hearing the zaps!)
Mosquito Spraying:
You can’t expect complete extermination but having your yard sprayed regularly makes a big difference - especially if you can get your neighbors to do the same!
Our friends at Barrier Pest Services offer a seasonal package to treat your yard during the height of Mosquito season (March - October). Treatments are applied to exterior plant foliage and mosquito resting areas every 3 weeks. There is no equipment to buy or install. The treatment is safe for kids and pets. The cost is $525.00 (up to 1/2 acre) and includes 10 visits. For those that do not contract for the season and just need an occasional spraying, the cost is $65 per service. In conjunction with mosquito control, they also offer flea and fire ant treatment.
Permanent Systems:
For a more long term, permanent solution, a MosquitoNix Misting System may be the way to go. This is going to be the most costly option, but could be well worth the money depending on the amount of time you spend outdoors.
When all else fails - COVER UP! Luckily living in a warmer environment, there is no shortage of warm weather, keep-you-cool clothing. We love Free Fly Bamboo shirts for men and women, and you can’t go wrong with a classic sun hat that will keep bugs out of your hair in addition to blocking harmful UV rays.
