Experiencing Opera

I was never a fan of Opera. My only experience was a German Opera during the Spoleto arts festival years ago, and I walked out of it. When a friend invited me to go to the Metropolitan Simulcast Opera at the North Charleston Regal Cinemas I accepted expecting to enjoy time with a friend, not really to see the Opera. Boy was I surprised!

Western written by Puccini in 1910.

The ticket price is nominal ($25), showtime is 12:55 pm and you sit in the comfort of the movie theater enjoying popcorn and soda. It is the “best seat in the house” because of all the cameras that give close ups and various angles. The nicest treat is that while the crowd in NYC are having intermission, our screen host conducts interviews with the principals, the conductor, the set and costume directors. We even once got to see how they make the whole simulcast thing work. Fascinating!

Opera fun with Dede and friends enjoying La Fanciulla Del West!

So now I am a big fan of the Opera! I am posting the schedule for this season. Watch for a future invite to enjoy an Opera as my treat. There are also showings at the public library downtown, but I prefer the privacy of the movie theater (and of course the ability to enjoy concessions).
