Hiring the Right Agent
There are more than 7,000 real estate agents in Charleston. How in the world can you choose one? Your Realtor should last beyond a single transaction. You should see your agent like a financial planner - a trusted advisor you can always call with questions about whether to buy, sell, refinance, relocate, or renovate. Here are some tips on what to expect from your agent and how to be sure you get connected with the right one.
Responsiveness: Your agent should get back to you timely - within a few hours consistently and never longer than 24 hours.
Experience: We were all brand new at one point, but a newer agent should have a mentor/partner and be willing to ask questions to get you needed information.
Competence: Your agent should be intelligent, well trained and current on contract revisions and market trends.
Compatibility: She doesn’t have to be your best friend, but you should like her personality and enjoy time spent together.
A direct communicator: You should receive information clearly and in your preferred mode (text, email, call, in-person).
A good listener: Your agent should be hyper focused on your needs/goals and not her own.
A strong track record: Does your agent have references to provide? Ideally you would know/speak to someone who has successfully worked with the agent before.
Does your agent check these boxes? If not, and you don't feel like you're getting the attention you deserve, you might be wondering how to make a change. Here are tips on how to break up if you aren’t happy with your agent.
