Dog Friendly Charleston

Charleston is known for friendly faces and warm hospitality, but it doesn't just extend to humans. Dogs are cherished and celebrated in our town!

The beaches are an obvious choice for outdoor fun with your pups. Each beach has their own set of leash laws, and they change with the season, so get educated before you go.

Follow this link to a list of off-leash dog parks in our area. Here are some of our favorites:

In Mt Pleasant there's Palmetto Islands County Park, the trails at Laurel Hill County Park, and Alhambra Hall which overlooks the harbor and is by far the most picturesque place for your dog to play.

James Island County Park has a dog park which includes a pond where dogs can swim.

In West Ashley, there's Ackerman by Avondale at 55 Sycamore and West Ashley Park at 3601 Mary Adler Ave.

In North Charleston, Wannamaker has a really great dog park and we love their trails. One of the few places you can walk trails that are shaded!

In Summerville, Ashley River Park is a greate choice.

Second Sunday on King Street downtown is the ultimate "see and be seen" for Charleston's most fashionable pooches. When traffic is shut down on King Street for this monthly pedestrian shopping day, you're sure to see tons of dogs out and about. The retail shop owners on King Street are gracious about letting pets inside, including Woof Gang Bakery - a key player in what makes Second Sunday popular with pet owners.
