Citadel Candlelight Service
A great activity to get in the Christmas Spirit….
One of Charleston’s longest and most memorable holiday traditions is the Christmas Candlelight Service at the Citadel’s historic Summerall Chapel. Cadets Choirs along with the Citadel Regimental Band take part in the annual celebration of the birth of Christ through Scripture lessons and carols. Prelude music by the Citadel Brass Ensemble begins at 7:00 and a breathtaking Procession of Lights starts the performance at 7:30.
A word of caution: We arrived at 7:00 thinking we were early for good seats and the chapel was nearly full. Plan to arrive at 6:30 and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. See if you can identify all the flags that have flown over South Carolina. There is a gorgeous display of poinsettias that cover the front of the chapel in honor of loved ones.
The hour long program is free and open to the public with donations accepted. This year’s performances will be December 6, 7, and 8 at 7:30.
This is truly a wonderful way to get in the Christmas Spirit.
