Holey City Bagels

Until now, bagels haven’t had much of a presence in Charleston Southerners just don't crave bagels like our friends in the Northeast. The few bagel shops we've had over the years haven't made it (RIP Bagel Nation Mt Pleasant). But with so many northerners here now, the city's bagel void demands a reckoning.

Enter Holey City Bagels, previously only found at the Saturday morning downtown Farmer's Market. They've now opened in the old Five Loaves spot at the corner of Cannon and Coming, which happens to be just around the corner from our Carolina One office - dangerous! I stopped on my way to work this morning to check it out. Ladies were hand rolling bagels in the back, and a friendly young guy named Emilio was taking the orders. I got a toasted plain bagel with veggie cream cheese and tomato. Even this southern girl could tell the bagel was legit - perfect texture and flavor. The attached coffee bar next door serves up all the favorites with dairy & plant based creamers (go for the oatmilk!)

You definitely need to check it out, but no need to rush - I have a feeling this one is going to be around for a while.
